Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve
Located nearby in the San Luis Valley, the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve are the home of the highest sand dunes in North America. The dunes have been forming over the past 500,000 years due to the unique action of wind and water. Covering 19,000 acres the dunes a true natural wonder.
Established in 1858, the fort's garrison of over 100 men protected the settlers in the San Luis Valley. Once commanded by the western hero, Kit Carson, the fort has interesting museum displays and special events.
San Isabel National Forest
One of our neighbors is the San Isabel National Forest. It offers many recreational opportunities for those who love the great outdoors.
